WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
The Commonwealth of Virginia, the University of Virginia (UVA), Virginia Tech (VT) and Virginia State University (VSU) have partnered to develop best-in-class research facilities with the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) and the Commonwealth Center for Aerospace Propulsion Systems (CCAPS).
Commonwealth Center for
Advanced Manufacturing
CCAM will be a research facility focused on innovations and improvements that can be applied directly to real manufacturing processes and technologies based on industry needs.
CCAM, currently under development, is an industry-led applied-research facility to study and develop new advanced manufacturing technologies.
The facility will be constructed on the Crosspointe site, and
will be home to professors, researchers and engineers from the universities and the industrial partners. The objective of the applied research conducted at CCAM is to work in collaboration with member industrial companies to reduce costs, speed time to market and maintain a global competitive advantage.
CCAM is based on existing Rolls-Royce research facilities such as the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield and the Advanced Forming Research Centre in Glasgow.

Commonwealth Center for Aerospace
Propulsion Systems
Rolls-Royce, UVA, and VT have also established CCAPS, which will bring together best-in-class research disciplines from both universities to collaborate on specific research activities that are critical to aerospace propulsion at Rolls-Royce. CCAPS will operate from laboratories at the UVA and VT.
